Fatal crash victim named

THE man who died as the result of a one-vehicle crash at Girvans Bridge has been named this afternoon as 32-year-old Jonathan O’Reilly, who came from the Milford area.
 
The accident, involving a BMW car, happened near the junction of the Keady Road and Ballyards Road, sometime between 11pm on Friday and 2.30am yesterday (Saturday) January 19.
 
Police are continuing to appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or observed a male walking in the area afterwards, to contact them in Armagh on 0845 600 8000.

Meanwhile, Sinn Fein MLA for Newry and Armagh, Cathal Boylan, has spoken of the sadness of the local community after the tragic accident.

“The news that a fatal accident occurred at Girvan’s Bridge on the main Keady to Armagh Road has shocked and saddened the local community,” he said. “My thoughts, and those of the local people, are with the family and friends of the gentleman who lost his life in such tragic circumstances.”

 

The Assemblyman – who is Sinn Fein’s Road Safety spokesperson – added: “I would urge all road users to be extremely careful in the icy weather conditions. Extra care is particularly essential when driving
around hills and bends, such as where this accident occurred.”
