Exceptionally positive trade at Markethill

AN entry of 420 cattle at Markethill sold in exceptionally positive trade on Tuesday, July 2, with store cattle prices continuing to strengthen.

Dairy stock sold to £1480 for a calved heifer from a Kilkeel farmer.  The same owner received £1310 for a calved heifer.  Others sold from £1100 to £1200 each.  Another large entry of cows and calves sold readily.  Good quality outfits from £950 to £1170 for a Lim cow and heifer calf from a Portadown farmer. 

CULL COWS

The 80 cull cows continued to sell at excellent rates with non-FQA cows selling readily.  Cow/heifers to £194 for 680k at £1315 followed by £187 for 590k at £1100.  Cows from £135 to £160 for 690k at £1100.  Friesians sold from £110 to £134 for 630k at £840.  Young frieisian cows to £154 for 560k at £860.  Second quality cows from £87 to £100 per 100 kilos and the poorest lots from £65 to £80 per 100 kilos.

Aged bulls to £146 for 830k at £1210.  Friesians to £118 for 1020k at £1200.

The 140 dropped calves sold in a steady demand.  An exceptionally quality 3 week old Char bull sold at £430.  The top 10 bull calves sold averaged £303 each.  Heifer calves sold to £250 for a Lim.  Main demand from £160 to £245.

Reared bull calves sold to £755 for a 8 month old Lim.  Several more from £600 to £720.  Heifers to £510 each.
