No further traces of E.coli 0157 have been found at Craigavon Area Hospital, it has been confirmed today (Tuesday).
The Southern Health Trust has today written to local councillors and other parties to provide an update.
It follows last Thursday’s report that the bacteria had been detected in the main kitchen at Craigavon Area Hospital.
This morning a spokesperson from the Southern Health and Social Care Trust said: “Following the detection of E.coli 0157 from our own routine sampling at the main kitchen at Craigavon Area Hospital, stringent food safety precautions are ongoing and we continue to work closely with the relevant agencies.
“Despite ongoing testing, no further traces of E.coli 0157 have been found.
“The kitchen remains open and continues to safely provide hot food, as cooking eliminates the risk of bacteria.”
“We would like to thank staff, patients and visitors for their continued co-operation with this matter.”
Further information on E.coli 0157 is available from the Public Health Agency
