Tributes paid to Dungannon bar owner who was ‘a friend to everyone’

McAleer's Bar first opened their doors in 1979 and over 45 years later, the establishment is still being run by the McAleer family

Tributes have been paid after the passing of an ‘extraordinary’ Dungannon business man.

Sean McAleer, founder of the long-established McAleers Bar, sadly passed away this morning (Thursday, June 4).

A post published on McAleers Bar’s Facebook page announced Sean’s passing.

It read: “Our hearts are broken this morning. Daddy passed away a few hours ago and we are all devastated.

“Full funeral arrangements will be available later. Tonight will be strictly for family only and then public wake Friday and Saturday with funeral Sunday.

God rest his gorgeous soul.”

McAleer’s Bar first opened their doors in 1979 and over 45 years later, the establishment is still being run by the McAleer family.

Originally opened by Sean and his wife Rosemary; in recent years sons Conor and Justin have continued the family legacy.

The popular Dungannon venue has always held a strong reputation in the town for regulars and visitors to the area – testimony to this are the heartfelt comments which have flooded in under the social post for the ‘great man’ that Sean was.

“Very sorry to hear about Sean, thoughts are with you all at this sad time. An absolute gentleman of a man. RIP Sean.”

Another added: “Rest in peace Sean. You were a friend to everyone and you will leave a huge gap in the town. Condolences to Rosemary, Justy, Conor and S.P. go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam.
