Brian John Carron (41) from Claremount Drive, Coalisland – but currently remanded in custody – faces a total of six charges comprising two counts each of possessing explosives in suspicious circumstances and to endanger life as well as single counts of possessing articles for use in terrorism and preparing for acts of terrorism.
It is contended he unlawfully and maliciously possessed the high-grade explosive substances, Cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine (RDX) and Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (PETN) for use in terrorism and with intent to endanger life and property
In addition, Carron is accused of possessing black gloves in circumstances giving rise to suspicion of connection in the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.
Offending is alleged to have occurred on various dates between May 27, 2022 and May 27, 2023.
A prosecuting barrister told Omagh Magistrates Court there is a case to answer which was conceded by the defence and agreed by District Judge Peter Magill.
No details surrounding the circumstances of the discovery of the haul were disclosed during the short hearing or where it occurred other than it was in County Tyrone.
Elements of the charges overlap the shooting of former Detective Constable John Caldwell for which Carron is one of eight men currently charged with attempted murder at Omagh Youth Sport in February 2023.
He is one of the last to remain in custody on that matter with the majority of coincide now released on bail.
Throughout the latest hearing Carron sat with his arms folded and remained impassive throughout, refusing to acknowledge the court or respond to any questions put to him, which were instead answered on his behalf by.Judge Magill.
He remanded Carron in continuing custody to appear for arraignment at Belfast Crown Court on a date to be fixed.
