The village of Moy and wider community are mourning the loss of an “absolute gentleman” and “very special person”.
Christopher (Chris) Hazlett passed away at hospital on September 3 and following his passing there has been an abundance of tributes paid to a man with “kindness” and an unforgettable character.
In his absence, friends and family will remember Chris for the laughs they shared and the time he so freely to those around him.
Sharing their condolences, one person said: “I’m so sorry to hear this awful news. Chris was an absolute gentleman and one of the most positive people I know.
“Chris helped me with Moygashel Cub Scouts for a few years. At times it was tough but we did have good laughs along the way. Chris was at the centre of that and he had a natural affinity with the kids, he was always easy company.
“We are all poorer for his passing! Sincere sympathy to all the family.”
It is understood that Chris spent many years working for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, both in Daisy Hill and Craigavon Area Hospitals.
Former colleagues have remarked on their memorable years with him from their student nursing days through to becoming fully-fledged members of the healthcare team.
At a loss for words, others said they simply “could not speak highly enough” of Chris and were sincerely sorry to hear of his passing.
Another added: “So sorry to hear of Chris’ passing… a real gentleman, never passed without stopping for a chat and catch up. I went to Tech in Armagh with Chris. We had great laughs together. Absolutely heart-breaking. Thinking of you all at this very difficult time.”
A death notice described Chris as the dearly loved husband of Michelle, beloved father of Josh and Ben, cherished son of Sheila and the late Sammy and dearest brother of Jennifer, Shirley-Ann, Amanda and the late Keith.
His funeral service will take place in Moy Methodist Church today (Saturday, September 6), at 12noon followed by interment in St James’s Parish Churchyard. Friends are welcome at his home.
