A Moy bar has raised a total of £4,760 for the cardiology ward at Craigavon Area Hospital through a Spirit of Folk festival.

This is the second incarnation of the event at Tomney’s Bar with the proceeds from last year being donated to Katie Rose’s Journey.

Speaking to Armagh I, pub owner, Barry John McNeice said:”The festival is run in conjunction with a lady called Siobhan O’Neill but this year we did not think it would be going ahead, due to the current climate.

“Once we found out we could it was tough to throw it together. I contacted Siobhan and said we will go ahead and raise some money.”

Siobhan is a nurse at the cardiology ward of Craigavon Area Hospital.

Said Barry: “It was meant to be for the ward last year but Katie Rose came to the fore, so we are just happy to be of assistance and most of it was down to our kind patrons.

“It was made up of a combination of wristbands and donations on the night. It was a fair amount and it shocked me, we were certainly happy with that.”

To ensure the safety of the event, Tomney’s Bar used wristbands to limit numbers, checked the temperature of those entering and used DrinkApp for the ordering of beverages.

Reflecting on how reopening has been, Barry said: “It has been steady and we are doing everything to minimise the risk by capping our numbers. The customers have been very positive and reacted really well.

“There are a lot of musicians and others who have been out of work for a while and we are just glad to be back on track.

“It has been strange times for everyone and I am glad to see other establishments opening up as well.”
