Mid Ulster Council to gift staff working on Christmas Eve extra day’s annual leave

Mid Ulster District Council has confirmed it will gift staff working this Christmas Eve an extra day’s annual leave.

Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service a spokesperson for Council confirmed some of its staff will be working on Thursday, December 24 and, as a gesture of goodwill, will receive an additional day’s annual leave for their efforts.

“Staff who would have been due to work on Christmas Eve will now receive an additional day’s annual leave,” said a spokesperson for Mid Ulster District Council.

“Our Environment and Property staff who will still be working to deliver essential services on Christmas Eve will be awarded an additional day’s holiday to take at another time.”

This additional day of leave is on top of an appreciation payment awarded to essential staff who attended their place of work during the Covid-19 response.

An appreciation payment, recognising those essential staff who attended their place of work during the COVID-19 response, was considered and agreed by Council in June, with qualifying staff receiving a payment of £15 per day up to a maximum of £500 during a defined period.
