Major £380,000 resurfacing scheme to begin at Stangmore Roundabout in Dungannon

A £380,000 resurfacing scheme for the busy A29 Stangmore Roundabout outside Dungannon – with weekend and overnight closures planned throughout March – is due to start this weekend.

The works, beginning on Saturday, March 14, will see structural patching and full-width resurfacing of the entire roundabout. Short sections of the off-slips towards Moy and Dungannon will also be resurfaced.

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: “This is a substantial investment in the Dungannon area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out.”

To minimise disruption, the Department for Infrastructure says the work will be carried out at weekends and overnight on the following dates:

  • Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 March – daytime closures, 8am to 6pm
  • Monday 16, Wednesday 18, Thursday 19 & Friday 20 March – overnight closures, 7pm to 6am
  • Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 March – daytime closures, 8am to 6pm
  • Monday 23 to Friday 28 March – overnight closures, 7pm to 6am

During these times the roundabout will be fully closed to through traffic, with signed diversions in place.

Stangmore Roundabout will, however, remain fully open all day on St Patrick’s Day, Tuesday 17 March 2026.

Drivers are being advised to follow the official diversion routes:

– Dungannon to M1 / Moy traffic
Traffic from Dungannon heading towards the M1 and Moy will be diverted via: A29 Moy Road, B517 Far Circular Road, B34 Killyman Road, B106 Trewmount Road, A29 Dungannon Road, Drumgannon Road and Moy Road – and vice versa.

– M1 east to Dungannon (westbound)
Traffic coming westbound from the M1 towards Dungannon will be diverted off at Tamnamore Roundabout onto B34 Tamnamore Road, B34 Killyman Road, B517 Far Circular Road and A29 Moy Road into Dungannon.

– A4 eastbound to Dungannon
Traffic from the A4 dual carriageway travelling eastbound to Dungannon will be diverted off the A4 at Granville via the A45 Granville Road and A45 Ballygawley Road into Dungannon.

The Department says the works and traffic management have been planned to minimise inconvenience and to maintain local access where possible.

However, motorists are being warned to expect some delays, to allow extra time for their journeys in the area, and to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.

Subject to favourable weather, the scheme is expected to be substantially complete by Friday, 28 March 2026. Any changes to the schedule will be publicised.
