Dungannon church plans

The Jehovah’s Witnesses are planning to ‘convert’ a vacant Dungannon shop into a new place of worship.

The property – located in the car park at Little Scotch Street – has previously been a charity shop and a veterinary surgeons’ practice.

But now an application for a change of use has been made by the Kingdom Hall Trust.

It will be hoping that Mid-Ulster District Council gives its blessing to plans for a change of use to a new place of worship.

The application would also involve some works, including an extension to the north west elevation.

Existing windows and doors would be blocked up and new window and door openings created.

The proposals also include new external render and cladding finishes along with the new signage.

An air source heat pump unit would be installed, and the property would be secured with the addition of boundary railings and gates.

The property had previously been advertised for sale when it was described as “spacious and convenient” and “suitable for a variety of commercial uses including offices, meeting rooms, shop etc”.

Comprising a total of eight rooms, over two floors, the marketing materials advised: “These premises will be attractive to those seeking spacious and versatile space in the excellent town location.”

These new proposals for a change of use as a place of worship are due to be advertised shortly.
