Former clerk to Lieutenancy of Armagh honoured for years of service passes away in hospital

Evelyn Beattie - of Caledon - was appointed a Member of the Royal Victorian Order in the 2018 New Year Honours list

A former clerk to the Lieutenancy of County Armagh honoured in 2018 for her many years of distinguished service to the Monarchy has passed away in hospital.

Evelyn Beattie – of Caledon – was appointed a Member of the Royal Victorian Order in the 2018 New Year Honours list.

In her role as a clerk to the Lieutenancy of County Armagh, Evelyn supported the Lieutenant of the county – the Rt Honourable Earl of Caledon – who is the Monarch’s personal representative for the county.

Evelyn would have helped to organise royal visits, civic ceremonies and supported the honours system locally.

Beyond her duties, Evelyn was warmly regarded as a “lovely lady” among those in her tight-knit community of Caledon.

Sadly, Evelyn passed away on January 20. A death noticed describes her as the dearly beloved wife of William, cherished mother of Gareth and Jane, mother-in-law of Aoife, grandmother to baby James and dear sister of the late Elizabeth.

A Thanksgiving Service for her life is due to be held on Friday (January 23) in Caledon Presbyterian Church at 12.30 pm followed by interment in St. John’s Parish Churchyard, Caledon.

Donations, if desired, are being gratefully received for Southern Area Hospice (Evora Hospice Care) via Dereck Marshall & Sons, Funeral Directors.
