The mother of a co Tyrone girl “fighting for her life” in intensive care is urgently requesting prayers, saying “please for the love of God, don’t take my baby”.
Four-year-old Remi Attwood, from Brackaville, near Coalisland, has been in hospital for the last 18 days. Her journey has been both tumultuous and terrifying.
She was admitted at the end of April with critical care kidney issues and her mum, Samantha has repeatedly called for prayer and support from her bedside.
Through dialysis, operations, ventilators and life-support Samantha has repeatedly put her trust in God to ensure her beloved daughter makes and full and complete recovery.
Her hope and faith is unwavering. Knowing that Remi will need a kidney transplant to survive she is now desperately calling for a “miracle”.
Via social media, Samantha published a heart-breaking update.
“Our beautiful girl Remi is in PICU fighting for her life,” she said. “I need you to understand how serious this is.
“Remi’s kidneys have failed completely. She has went into full kidney failure and multi-organ shutdown. She crashed. She was put on life support.
“She survived, but only because machines are keeping her alive.”
Samantha explained the extent of Remi’s treatment which includes 24/7 dialysis, a ventilator to help her breathe, emergency PD catheter surgery — a tube in her stomach for dialysis and “dozens of medications — keeping her blood pressure down , fighting infection, managing pain, keeping her sedated so her body can rest”.
She adds: “She needs a kidney transplant to survive. Until then, dialysis is her lifeline. We don’t know when a kidney will come. We don’t know if she’ll make it.
“We are living hour by hour. One minute she’s stable, the next minute her blood pressure sky rockets and the whole room runs. This is the reality of PICU. This is a long, terrifying, uncertain road. We are looking at months in hospital.”
Calling again for spiritual support, she pleads: “Please, we need you to Pray for Remi. Hard. If you’re religious, ask your church to put her on the prayer list. If you’re not, send every bit of love and light you have.
“She’s 4 years old. She should be at nursery with all her little buddies. Instead she’s fighting for her life. Please God don’t take my baby our hearts are broken. We need a miracle.
“Sacred heart of Jesus I place all my trust in thee.”
Independent Republican councillor for Torrent DEA, Dan Kerr has also urged the public to keep Remi in their thoughts and prayers.
