Boy (11) rescued after falling down manhole at Dungannon shopping outlet

An 11-year-old boy has been rescued after falling down a manhole at a shopping outlet in Dungannon.

The incident happened shortly before 7pm this evening (Wednesday).

Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the incident, which occurred at The Oaks Centre, along the Oak Road in the town.

A NI Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed to Armagh I that an 11-year-old male had fallen down a manhole in the vicinity of The Oaks shopping complex, with the 999 call coming in at 6.50pm.

Two crews were in attendance and used a ladder and breathing equipment to reach the youngster who was trapped in two foot of water at at the bottom.

It is understood the boy – who was conscious – had suffered an injury to his back.

Fortunately, firefighters were able to gain access and free the boy who was then taken into the care of the NI Ambulance Service.

His condition is unknown at this stage.
