Tributes have been paid following the death of former Ógras Youth Club Coalisland Chairman who did so much for his local community, Brian O’Neill.
Regarded by many as a gentleman, Brian was Chairman of the Coalisland Youth Club – based in the Parochial Hall on the Stewartstown Road – for many years.
Through his advice, unwavering support and guidance Brian left his mark on the lives of all those he encountered.
Following his sad passing on Tuesday (December 2) those who had the fortune of knowing him have taken the time to share their fond memories and sincerest condolences with his family.
Speaking of their esteemed former Chairman, Ógras Youth Club said: “Brian served as our Chairman for many years, giving his time, guidance, and unwavering support to both staff and the young people of the Coalisland area.
“His dedication helped shape a safe, vibrant, and encouraging space for countless young people, and his legacy will continue to live on in the community he cared for so deeply. Brian’s commitment, kindness, and leadership will be remembered with great gratitude.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Brian’s family especially Collette who served the club for many years with great distinction and all who loved him during this difficult time.
“May he rest in peace.”
Another person added: “Very saddened to hear the news today of the passing of Brian O Neill, a man who has done so much for the Coalisland community over many years.
“Brian played an instrumental part in the development of Ógras Youth club holding many positions on the Management committee including Chairperson.
“Content to diligently work away in the background his steadying and assured manner made working alongside him reassuring.
“His priority was his family, especially our dear friend Colette who were joined at the hip, my thoughts are with you all at this sad time.
“Brian served many committees and boards over the years and his wisdom and knowledge will be a loss to the town he loved.
“Thanks for all you have done for me personally over many years and may you rest in peace Brian.”
One of Brian’s neighbours summed him up beautifully by saying he was simply a “great man in every way”.
Brian passed away at home peacefully with his loving family.
A death notice described him as the beloved husband of Colette (Taggart), treasured father to Lavina (Adrian McCann), Barry (Róisín), Pádraig (Petrina), Róisín (Gary O’Neill), Sean (Natasha) and the late Brendan RIP, devoted grandfather to all his grandchildren, dear son of the late Mary (O’Neill) and loving brother of Pat- Joe (Mary), Anthony (Goretti), Susan, Kieran (Ann),Kevin (Bridie) and the late Marie and Michael RIP.
Requiem Mass will be held on Thursday at SS Mary and Joseph’s Church, Brackaville Road at 10am with interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
