Demand in all rings at Markethill cattle sale

AN entry of 520 cattle at Markethill sold in a steady demand in all rings last night (Tuesday), April 23.

The 20 dairy stock sold to £1780 for a calved heifer from a Loughgall farmer.  A Stewartstown farmer received £1550 and £1320 for calved heifer.  Several more from £1000 to £1220.  An entry of maiden heifers sold from £570 to £680.

In the suckler ring in-calf cows sold to £850 with others from £650 to £825.

CULL COWS

The 120 cull cows sold readily.  Cow/heifers from £150 to £162.50 for 560k at £910.  Cows from £135 to £156 for 700k at £1090.  Young friesians from £125 to £135 for 580k at £780.  Friesian cows from£105 to £121 for 650k at £785.  Second quality from £85 to £100 per 100 kilos and the poorest cows from £60 to £78 per 100 kilos.

Aged bulls to £1550 for 1180k (131).  Friesians to £118 for 780k at £920.

The 140 dropped calves returned an excellent demand.  Bull calves from £180 to £360.  The top 10 bulls averaged £264 each.  Heifers to £285 for an Angus.  Main demand from £170 to £270.  The top heifers averaged £220 each.

The 110 reared calves sold in a steady demand.  Bulls to £650 and heifers to £625.
