A Crossmaglen man has pledged to go without eating for an entire week to raise vital funds for a Northern Irish repatriation charity.
Patrick McEneaney – owner of KIS Pizza & Coffee Bar in the town – says he will go nil by mouth for seven days starting on May 4.
In that week he will have to sustain himself on only water, black coffee sans milk and sugar and herbal teas.
And, he says “some electrolytes are also ok”.
Of the fasting challenge – which comes with some risk – Patrick said: “This is something I’ve done quite a bit and isn’t something I’ll be taking lightly.
“I have done lots of research into long fasts and I’m well prepared for the challenge.”
His initiative has rubbed off on a number of people with several staff members also “kindly” offering to take part in his last 24 hours to “help get me over the line”.
Some of the more foolhardy have also offered to take part for longer periods of time – but none have quite matched Patrick’s commitment to a full week.

An ambitious for all challenge – no doubt – working around all those delicious tomato sauce-slathered carbohydrates!
Their efforts will all be in aid of Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust who they aim to raise a total of £2000 for.
Full of enthusiasm – and with a desire to keep spreading awareness for the Newry-based charity – Patrick is inviting the public to participate.
He adds: “We would love if some of our customers take part in the fundraiser. It would be great for moral and awareness of what we are doing and what it is for. Maybe it’s a case of simply tagging us [KIS Pizza’s Instagram] if you are doing a 24 hour fast yourself?
“Maybe a group of friends take part? Maybe a group of work colleagues? You also definitely don’t need to be a customer of KIS to take part.
“We want this as inclusive as possible, it doesn’t matter if you’ve never been to KIS before, if your living in America, Australia or anywhere else in the world, we just want as many people to take part as possible.”
The team will have donations buckets available on site in KIS Pizza and have also launched a JustGiving page to collate online donations which you can find here.
