A man witnessed walking along in an incoherent state was later found dead at the side of the road in south Armagh.
The man had been seen wandering along the Glassdrumman Road near Crossmaglen when people raised their concerns with a local councillor.
Sinn Féin Councillor Barra Ó Muirí raised the alarm with emergency services straight away.
The man’s tragic passing has caused a deep sense of sadness in the community this morning (Friday).
“Residents contacted me late last night after they had witnessed a man in an incoherent state wandering down the Keady line,” Councillor Ó Muirí explained.
“I contacted the emergency services immediately. At the scene police and ambulance personnel found the man collapsed and tried to resuscitate him.
“Unfortunately he passed away. I must commend those good Samaritans who first raised their fears about the safety and well being of this man.”
He added: “The circumstances of this man’s death are unclear and are being investigated. Local people are shocked and saddened and we offer our sympathies to the family of the deceased.”
