A Culloville man has appeared in court on an attempted murder charge following a stabbing incident outside a pub in the village on Sunday night.
Paul Anthony Hatzer, 44, of Malachy Conlon Park, who appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court – sitting in Newry – on Tuesday morning, also faces a charge of possession of an offensive weapon, namely a knife.
The charges stem from an alleged stabbing incident outside licensed premises on the Concession Road at approximately 9pm on March 30.
A man, aged in his 40s, suffered deep lacerations to his hand and a number of more superficial wounds to his head and neck.
During a brief hearing on Tuesday, Hatzer confirmed his name and date of birth and that he understood the charges against him.
While defence barrister Kevin O’Hare did not make an application for bail, PSNI Constable Mack told the court that police would be making a “very strong” objection to bail.
However, Mr O’Hare asked for a short adjournment until Thursday, whereby he indicated he would be making an application for bail.
Hatzer was remanded back into custody until then and will reappear at Banbridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, April 3.
