Intoxicated motorist found driving in Crossmaglen with missing tyre

A motorist has been caught by police travelling not only whilst double the legal limit, but with no tyre on the front-left wheel.

It happened earlier this week in the Crossmaglen area when officers from the Slieve Gullion North Neighbourhood Policing Team came across the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, which was a red BMW, was found to be twice the legal drink-drive limit and was arrested for a number of offences.

A police spokesperson writing on Facebook said: “We’ve seen a few less than roadworthy tyres, but no tyre is a first…”

They continued: “A preliminary breath test was conducted at the roadside with the driver, who provided a reading of over twice the legal limit.

“The driver was arrested for multiple offences and the vehicle was seized. They will now face their day in court.

“Drinking before driving is a choice, that choice could have devastating consequences for your family or someone else’s family, it’s not worth the risk. Never ever drink and drive.”
