A woman who admitted theft had “fallen in with a bad crowd” in Portadown, Craigavon Magistrates’ Court heard.
Rachael Sherry (35), with an address listed as Clanmorris Street in Belfast, stole sandwiches, coleslaw and burger baps from a shop in Portadown on August 5 this year.
She had “quite a lengthy record” and appeared at court via video link from prison where she had spent a week on remand.
A defence solicitor said the defendant had taken the food “out of necessity” and added: “It wasn’t luxuries that she was taking.”
In the last number of months “she had made her way down to Portadown and has fallen in with a bad crowd”.
Jailing the defendant for two weeks, which meant she was being released due to time served, the District Judge Michael Ranaghan noted it was the first theft on the defendant’s record.
