Police have launched an investigating after a photo was taken of a child in a changing room cubicle of the South Lake Leisure Centre in Craigavon on Thursday.
A police spokesperson said: “Police received a report of voyeurism involving a child in a leisure centre in the Lake Road area of Craigavon shortly after 4pm yesterday, Thursday, February 22.
“Enquires are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with any information to contact police on 101 and quote reference 1210 of 22/02/24. You can also report online at www.psni.police.uk/
Upper Bann MLA, Jonathan Buckley says he has requested an urgent meeting with ABC Council senior management.
“It has been brought to my attention by local parents that there are concerns with the safeguarding of children in the unisex changing facilities in South Lake Leisure Centre,” said the DUP representative.
“In this day and age where photographic and video technology is so easily accessible, we really cannot underestimate the potential dangers posed to children when changing in these settings.
“This facility is a state of the art game-changer that is enjoyed by many, but with the shear amount of people frequenting it, child safety must not be taken for granted.
“I will be requesting an urgent meeting with senior management to discuss measures that can be undertaken to ensure that children and young people have assurances of privacy and safety when changing.”
