Two teenage boys suffer burns after petrol bomb attack on their home

Two teenage boys were left with minor burns after a petrol bomb attack on their home in Craigavon last night (Thursday).

One petrol bomb was thrown at the property in the Lakelands area at about 23:30 GMT on Thursday.

It is understood the teenage boys were watching TV in the living room when the attack happened.

A number of youths – police say three or four – were spotted running from the scene moments later.

Doug Beattie MC MLA, speaking to Armagh I, said: “I have been briefed this morning about a truly disgraceful petrol bomb attack on a family home in Lakelands, Craigavon, late last night.

“We are very lucky this morning that we are not talking about deaths here in Craigavon.

“As it stands, there have been no serious injuries reported, but two children have been suffered burn injuries and someone’s home has been destroyed.”

“Can I appeal to the public and civic society in general to go to the PSNI with any information they may have about this or any incident in our community.

“For the perpetrators, they need to understand that these actions have consequences and we could be looking at the deaths of young children-those deaths would be on your hands!”

Detective Inspector Stephen Harvey commented: “This was an extremely reckless attack and it is fortunate that the injuries were not considerably worse.

“I would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or anyone who has information about this incident to contact Detectives at Lurgan on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1249 23/03/17.

“Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
