Paedophile (43) handed 12-year sentence for litany of sexual offences on child

A County Armagh paedophile has been handed a 12-year sentence for a series of sick sexual offences against a child.

Detectives investigation the litany of offences welcomed the sentencing of the 43-year-old man at Craigavon Crown Court on Wednesday.

The man was sentenced to 12 years for two counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, two counts of attempted rape, one count of voyeurism, two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault by penetration.

He will serve a total of six years in prison and six years on licence.

He will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for seven years and has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

Detective Sergeant Ryan said: “Officers in the Police Service of Northern Ireland remain committed to investigating all reports of sexual offences against children and young people.

“We will seek to place offenders before the courts so they can be made amenable for their crimes.

“Please be assured that we have specially trained officers who will treat victims with sensitivity and respect – at every stage of the process. I would continue to encourage anyone who has experienced any form of sexual abuse to contact police on 101, or in an emergency call 999.”
