The heartbroken husband of a popular Craigavon youth worker and school lunchtime supervisor has described her as “one in a million”.
Karen Winton passed away peacefully at Craigavon Area Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Monday evening (January 19).
Her husband Craig posted an emotional tribute to a woman he described as “not just the best wife but my rock, Karen.”
“She was the most kindest person I knew,” he wrote. “She was one in a million and she touched so many people’s lives she will truly be missed by so many people. She is now back with her mum no more suffering. Love you always babes, gbnf RIP Karen.”
As well being the beloved wife of Craig, she was a much-loved daughter of Joseph and the late Gemma O’Brien, and loving sister of Jim and Catherine.
Paying tribute to their colleague, Lismore College said: “We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our lunchtime supervisor, Karen.
“Karen was a familiar and caring presence in our school community and will be greatly missed by students, staff, and families alike.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Karen’s husband Craig, her family and her many friends at this very difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.”
Those who knew her describe her as a “beautiful lady inside and out” and a good friend who was always up for a laugh.
She also formerly worked at Moy Park where she made many friends across their sprawling workforce.
One former colleague said: “R.I.P Karen, devastated to hear this, was a great help to me when I started in Moy Park, such sad news…”
Another added: “Awful sad news thinking of her family, friends and all who worked with Karen all the kids that she made a big impacted on their lives were heartbroken when they heard the new last night I know our Mia will miss u xx”
Karen’s remains will be reposing at her father Joseph’s home 507 Drumbeg South Craigavon BT65 5AH on Wednesday from 2pm where family and friends will be welcome to call and pay their respects.
Funeral on Friday at 10.15am to St Anthony’s Church Craigavon for 11.00am Requiem Mass. Burial afterwards in St John’s Cemetery Lylo.
Anyone attending the funeral or requested to wear purple if they wish. Very deeply regretted by her loving husband, and entire family circle.
