Motorist tailgated and undertook police vehicle on A1 dual-carriageway

A motorist tailgated and undertook a police car and when pulled over was “instantly hostile,” a court was told.

Jason Alan Duffin (37), of Deramore Park, Moira, was charged with dangerous driving and excess speed.

The case was dealt with at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court in the absence of the defendant following a previous adjournment.

The court was told the defendant had been in an Audi A6 on the A1 dual-carriageway near Banbridge on February 7 this year.

A prosecutor said the defendant’s vehicle came up behind police at speed and after tailgating undertook the police car and another vehicle.

When police followed they noted speeding offences in the Dromore area and tailgating and further undertaking of vehicles.

When they stopped and spoke to the defendant he “instantly became hostile” towards police and “blamed his driving on other vehicles on the road” and he refused a fixed penalty notice, the prosecutor said.

The defendant was banned from driving for 18 months and was fined £350.
