While many of us enjoy a little rest and relaxation on Christmas Day – especially if you’re not the one cooking – there are others who are still up and about in uniform, clocking in for a day’s work.
For the Southern Trust’s staff at Daisy Hill and Craigavon Area Hospitals, the day presents an opportunity to get into the festive spirit while ensuring all visitors and patients have as pleasant an experience as possible.
Of his experience working Christmas Day Portering Supervisor at Daisy Hill Hospital, John Campbell said: “My role within the porter/ security department on Christmas Day will be working with our team to ensure all portering duties and tasks are fulfilled from patient moves to sample collections, delivering meals and collecting waste.
“We will support staff and patients as best we can and as our security duties go, we will strive to keep the hospital site, patients, visitors and staff as safe and secure as we can.
“Personally, I have worked several Christmas Days in Daisy Hill and have found it to be a very pleasant experience with people generally in the festive spirit.
“We at the Daisy Hill Portering Department would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year.”
Over at Craigavon Area Hospital, it’s more or less business as usual for Ward Admins Jessica Pugh, Paula O’Hagan and Alana McDonald who added: “Working as ward admin means that Christmas Day will be a normal, busy day for us.
“We will be coordinating the different admin requests of all wards in Craigavon Area Hospital on the day.
“This includes processing board reports, reviewing handover notes making sure these are updated quickly and accurately and supporting with any discharges.
“We’ll be managing any incoming calls and queries to keep things running smoothly and answering any queries from patients and families who comes through our doors.”
