Jobs lost with Homebase in Craigavon to close its doors in New Year

Hopes for a new tenant in the early part of the New Year

Homebase Craigavon

Craigavon’s Homebase store is set to close in the next number of weeks.

The retail giant’s Rushmere outlet will pull down the shutters for the last time in January.

While no official closing date has been given at this time, sources indicate it will be early in the New Year.

The giant household store – complete with garden centre – has been a major offering at the Rushmere Retail Park for many years.

In recent times, a notice has appeared confirming that a closing down sale had been started.

The loss of Homebase will come as a huge blow for the area. It is understood a significant number of jobs will be lost.

More than 70 Homebase stores across the UK were put up for sale last month after it was confirmed the retailer had gone into administration.

While it is understood that some stores have been bought over, hopes that the Co Armagh outlet might be saved – even at the 11th hour – have proved to no avail.

It has been a worrying time for the staff at Craigavon who are now facing the bleakest of outcomes at a particularly difficult time of year.

It is hoped a new tenant won’t be far behind in taking on the soon-to-be former Homebase premises.
