A man who assaulted another man in Dromore leaving him with a “serious head injury” has received a six months prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

Logan Steele (22), of Hawthorn Walk in Dromore, was sentenced at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday on a charge of grievous bodily harm in connection with an incident on October 16, 2022.

A prosecutor said police attended the Market Bar in Dromore following a report a man was assaulted and suffered a “serious head injury”.

Officers saw he had an injury to a cheekbone and “blood coming down the back of his head”.

The man had a fracture to his face and had been given staples to the back of his head.

A defence lawyer said the defendant, who had “addiction issues”,  “couldn’t recall the incident”.

The defendant had a previous record.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan noted the defendant has been seeking help from Community Addictions.
