The Southern Health and Social Care Trust’s eighth Excellence Awards ceremony celebrated and recognised the commitment, innovation and achievements of staff and volunteers.
Eimer McGeown, scooped the top award for her entry in Quality Care – For you, With You – Award for Partnership Working with Service Users/Carers in the Design and Delivery of Services.
Trust-wide Reporting Radiographers for Plain Film Team took the Runner-up Award for their entry in the Better Together Award for Team of the Year Behind the Scenes.
There were six award categories including Taking the lead; Better Together Frontline; Better Together Behind the Scenes; Learning in Action; Quality Care – For you, With you; Innovation in Action and People’s Choice Award.
Shane Devlin, Southern Trust Chief Executive said: “These awards are our way of thanking and recognising those staff who go the extra mile to provide outstanding patient care and help make the Trust a better place to work for all of us.
“I am continually impressed and humbled by the commitment of our staff to making services better and improving people’s lives.
“These awards gives me an extra opportunity to pay tribute to each and every member of our Southern Trust team for their dedication to our patients and clients and for the excellent care they provide every day.
“Well done to all of the winners, runners up and those nominated for an award, for the hard work and commitment they have demonstrated”.
Special guest at the ceremony, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health Richard Pengelly presented the awards and paid tribute to the vital role played by Southern Trust staff.
Speaking at the event, Siobhan Rooney, Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Excellence Awards Committee said: “This is the eighth year of our Excellence Awards. I am delighted that it continues to grow each year and continues to highlight the outstanding measures that our staff and volunteers go to in order to make a difference to the patients and clients living in the Southern area.
“We have been extremely impressed by the quality of the nominations received. We have extraordinary staff doing exceptional things every day. Our staff consistently go above and beyond to provide excellent care to patients. This shone through in the nomination forms. It is inspiring and humbling to hear such wonderful stories, and so on behalf of the Trust I thank you all for your extraordinary work.”
The role of master of ceremonies was held by Trust Day Care Support worker Brendan McGarrity and Guest Inspirational Speaker at the event was Nuala McKeever, Comic Actress and Writer.
