Storm Éowyn – as anticipated – has proven to be one of the most destructive weather fronts in recent years.
High winds and gusts of up to 90mph have been battering Co Armagh.
Thousands of homes have been left without power and the trail of destruction has been evident – the clean up operation could take days, and even weeks, in some places.
The Mall in Armagh has lost several of its historic trees while Gosford Forest Park has been badly hit, with dozens of trees reportedly down.
The roof on parts of the Athletic Grounds – home to All-Ireland Champions, Armagh – looked precarious at best earlier today. Newry Showgrounds couldn’t quite stave off the damage though.
Meanwhile, patients and staff at Craigavon Area Hospital escaped injury after a window on a ward blew in, according to the BBC.
A spokesperson for the hospital said the damage was mostly in non-clinical areas and would have a minor impact on services. Fallen trees are restricting access to a car park on the site.
Elsewhere, Translink says no rail services will operate for the remainder of Friday and there is potential impact to some early Saturday morning services as well.
