A ‘frustrated’ patient who headbutted a window in front of a receptionist causing a “loud bang” at the Emergency Department of Craigavon Area Hospital has admitted disorderly behaviour.
Daniel Aidan Barry (37), of Rathview in Banbridge, committed an offence on October 29 last year.
The defendant was not present at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday but a guilty plea was entered by a defence barrister on his behalf.
An earlier court was told police had brought the defendant to the hospital.
He had been “very rude” using swear words to the receptionist at a time when people were in the waiting room.
A defence barrister told the earlier court the defendant had apologised to the receptionist at the hospital.
The previous court was told the defendant had punched a brick wall in Banbridge and he had been taken to hospital with two broken bones in his hand. He had been drinking.
The barrister said the defendant had been “frustrated” at the hospital and “he accepts he shouldn’t have been doing what he was doing in front of very ill people”.
At Friday’s court, District Judge Michael Ranaghan said the defendant had a “significant enough” record.
The case has now been adjourned to March 27 for a pre-sentence report.
