A driver has been arrested on suspicion of a number of motoring offences after their car overturned and struck a lamppost near Craigavon Area Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday, March 18.
Officers from Lurgan’s Local Policing Team attended the scene of a single-vehicle collision close to the hospital, where they found the vehicle on its roof on the footpath, having collided with a lamppost.
Police say the driver was located at the scene and subjected to a roadside preliminary breath test, which returned a reading almost double the legal alcohol limit. The individual was arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol, along with several other driving offences.
Remarkably, the driver did not sustain any injuries but was taken to hospital as a precaution. No other vehicles or pedestrians were involved.

A PSNI spokesperson said that, while this incident ended without serious injury, the outcome could easily have been far worse.
They added that despite repeated warnings, some motorists continue to drive under the influence of drink or drugs, and that officers will continue to patrol the roads to target such offenders and keep local communities safe.
