Craigavon PSNI brands Facebook ‘share or pay’ ploy “a massive load of tripe!”

Police in Craigavon have put paid to the age old scam that Facebook is about to start charging.

And they do it as only they can – branding it a “massive load of tripe”.

Clearly the PSNI like most frequenters of Facebook have witnessed the resurgence of claims that posts must be shared to users’ pages or they face being charged.

The majority know that it is indeed as the PSNI say – tripe!

But sadly there are those who, every time it rears its head, think ‘what if…’.

This is the current post doing the rounds – AGAIN!!

“OH Dear Some PEOPLE COULD BE IN TROUBLE Everything you’ve ever posted becomes public from tomorrow. Even messages that have been deleted or the photos not allowed. It costs nothing for a simple copy and paste, better safe than sorry. Channel 13 News talked about the change in Facebook’s privacy policy.
I do not give Facebook or any entities associated with Facebook permission to use my pictures, information, messages or posts, both past and future. With this statement, I give notice to Facebook it is strictly forbidden to disclose, copy, distribute, or take any other action against me based on this profile and/or its contents. The content of this profile is private and confidential information. The violation of privacy can be punished by law (UCC 1-308- 1 1 308-103 and the Rome Statute). NOTE: Facebook is now a public entity. All members must post a note like this. If you prefer, you can copy and paste this version. If you do not publish a statement at least once it will be tactically allowing the use of your photos, as well as the information contained in the profile status updates. DO NOT SHARE. Copy and paste to be on the safe side.”

Admit it – how many times have you seen that in the past couple of days? Alas there are those will always believe it!

It is those who feel uncertain and unsure that the PSNI in Craigavon are once again targeting with their recipe of humour and help.

We love this post and their warning to simply ignore this drivel!

As always, it’s best to let the comedic geniuses of the PSNI in Craigavon take centre stage (which coincidentally is where they should be) – with their wry wit and hilarious hashtags….

“It’s official, signed at 10:33 by Jimmy Nesbitt and Charlie Lawson. It’s even been on TV and Big Julian will be announcing it again tonight after Frank does the weather. Facebook will start charging you this summer! If you copy this to your wall your icon will turn blue and your Facebook will be free for you, because a blue icon for some reason earns Facebook millions of $. Please share this message, if not your icon will be deleted and you will have to pay!
PS- this is serious, the icon will turn blue.
PPS- Public Prosecution Service.
PPPS- If you don’t share, all your toes will fall off and Santa won’t come, and you will still, for some arbitrary reason, have to pay for Facebook.

“Afternoon folks. Doesn’t that look ridiculous? That is because it is, of course, a massive load of tripe. Facebook has been awash today, again, with people falling for a similar message. This isn’t exactly a ‘scam’, in that you won’t be losing any money, but your friends will probably get annoyed that you have copied and pasted it! So let’s use it as a gentle learning tool while we aren’t actually being scammed… DON’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ONLINE!
“If it seems a bit odd, or just too good to be true, don’t bite! Check it out first. A quick Google search of “Is _____ a scam?” will usually answer. If not, ask a friend who is Internet minded. If that still doesn’t work, we should be able to help you. Better safe than sorry!
Stay safe out there!”
