Collection bins placed in council buildings for food donations to feed homeless

'I would hope the generosity of our borough's citizens will help people in need get through winter months'

Food collection bins are being placed at council buildings across the borough to help feed the homeless.

The initiative is being rolled out in Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon.

And it is the brainchild of Sinn Fein Deputy Mayor Paul Duffy, who says he wants to do something practical to allow people the chance to offer help to those in need at this time of year.

It follows a request from the Simon Community charity.

Three food collection bins have been put in place at the Palace in Armagh, Craigavon Civic Centre and the civic building in Banbridge.

Deputy Mayor Duffy is calling on donations of ‘long life’ food items.

He said: “In the run up to to homeless week in December, I would hope that the generosity of our borough’s citizens will help the people in need get through the winter months.

“Homelessness has an impact across the entire community and all items donated will go a long way to helping those in need this year.”
