A bereaved Co Armagh father has organised a remarkable fundraising basketball tournament in memory of his beloved daughter this weekend.

Paul McKenna, from Derrymacash, is running a basketball tournament at the South Lake Leisure Centre on Sunday in memory of his baby daughter, Darcy, who passed away in August 2022.

The event is not only a tribute to Darcy but also serves as a fundraiser for the Little Forget Me Nots Trust, a Lurgan-based charity dedicated to supporting families who have tragically experienced the loss of a child under 12 years of age across Northern Ireland.

Up to 16 teams will be participating in the tournament, with the prestigious Darcy McKenna Shield and Darcy McKenna Cup awarded to the victors. Local businesses have generously donated prizes for raffles throughout the day.

In a heartwarming gesture, various businesses located in the South Lake Health and Well-being suite will offer mini treatments to individuals affected by child loss. These can be booked into via http://www.lfmnt.com

The day’s activities will conclude with a poignant candlelit vigil at 7 pm outside the leisure centre as part of the global Wave of Light initiative, which commemorates little ones who were taken too soon.

A wall of remembrance will display the names of children who have passed away, creating a powerful and moving tribute. Attendees will be gathering from 6.15pm. Candles can be purchased on the evening.
