A patient in Craigavon Area Hospital picked up a needle saying he was going to stick it in his eye and then lifted a patient’s walking stick and swung it towards the heads of two nurses.
Jason Patrick Toal, of Culdee Drive in Armagh city, was shouting and cursing and then threw the walking stick at security officers and it hit a glass door.
The 33-year-old had been aggressive towards staff throughout the night and despite being asked to calm down he was following staff as they attended to other patients.
He was eventually restrained by security during the incident on April 5 last year, Craigavon Magistrates’ was told.
Meanwhile, Toal has also admitted three assaults which happened in the hospital on January 28 this year.
The facts of that case were not outlined to the court.
A defence lawyer said the defendant has “huge addiction issues”.
The defendant was further remanded in custody and the cases were adjourned to September 5 for a pre-sentence report.
