ABC Lord Mayor extends warm Christmas wishes to the borough

The Lord Mayor also issued a gentle reminder to shop local during this busy season and support our local businesses

The Lord Mayor of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council has taken the opportunity to extend his warmest wishes to the borough this Christmas period.

Said Lord Mayor Stephen Moutray: “As we approach this special time of year, I want to take a moment to wish everyone across our borough a very happy and peaceful Christmas.

“Christmas is a season of joy, hope, and togetherness, rooted in the Christian message of love and grace.

“As the famous carol ‘Joy to the World’ reminds us, this is a time to rejoice and celebrate the coming of Christ, bringing light and hope to our lives.

“While this is a time of celebration for many, I am mindful that it can also be difficult for some.

“I encourage everyone to reach out to those around you and share kindness wherever you can – the smallest gesture can make a big difference.

“I want to extend my thanks to each of you for the unwavering support you have shown me as Lord Mayor throughout my time in office to date.

“It has been a privilege to meet so many residents, community organisations, church groups, businesses, and visitors from across the borough and beyond.

“I have been inspired by the remarkable sense of community spirit and kindness that truly reflects the character of our borough.

“Reflecting on the first half of my term as Lord Mayor, I am immensely proud of all we have accomplished together.

“We were honoured by the royal visit of Their Royal Highnesses Prince William and Princess Kate, a truly memorable occasion that showcased the very best of our borough.

“We also celebrated a record number of visitors at the much-loved Armagh Georgian Festival, a highlight of our cultural calendar that brought colour and life to our streets.

“In addition, I was delighted to congratulate the outstanding groups from our borough who received recognition at the IPB Pride of Place Awards – a testament to the dedication and community spirit that define us.

“At the beginning of my term, I chose two charities close to my heart – Epilepsy Action Northern Ireland and Evora Hospice Care.

“I sincerely thank everyone who has supported fundraising efforts so far; your generosity is making a real difference. I will continue to fundraise for these charities throughout my time in office.

“This Christmas, I encourage everyone to shop local and support our businesses.

“They are vital for our economy, and by choosing local, you’re helping sustain jobs and ensure our borough continues to thrive.

“Our borough is truly unique, and I am proud to serve as your Lord Mayor and to represent such an exceptional place.

“On behalf of myself, Lady Mayoress and everyone at the council, I wish you and your loved ones a joyful Christmas and a New Year.”
