Confiscation Order over benefit fraud!

THE Social Security Agency Financial Investigation Unit has obtained a Confiscation Order to the value of £6,685 against Wilson Clarke, of Gamblestown Park, Donaghcloney.

Craigavon Crown Court heard that the 66-year-old claimed Pension Credit, Incapacity Benefit and Housing Benefit on the grounds that he was unfit for work and had no savings or other source of income.

During his claim to benefits the defendant had failed to declare that he had significant levels of money in bank accounts.

Due to his failure to report his true circumstances, he received a total of £18,858 in benefits he was not entitled to over a five year period.

On August 7 last year the defendant pleaded guilty to six charges of failing to declare his true circumstances. He received a two year prison sentence suspended for three years.

At the confiscation hearing the court granted a Confiscation Order in the amount of £6,685, with a sentence of six months imprisonment in default for non-payment.

Clarke has until August 21 this year to satisfy the order.
