Community urged to stand together and be vigilant as yet another family home burgled

Another family is counting the cost on the mouth of Christmas after worthless burglars broke in and helped themselves!

The incident on Tuesday night, at Camlough, is the latest in a long line of burglaries in recent days across County Armagh.

On Saturday night, five houses were broken into in the Portadown, Craigavon and Lurgan areas.

The depths to which those responsible are stooping is getting even worse.

Burglars in recent times have bludgeoned a family dog to death and left it in a child’s bed, emptied out a pet dog’s ashes from an urn in the hunt for valuables and stolen jewellery belonging to the home-owner’s late mother.

Just last weekend a pensioner had his money stolen in Cullyhanna, before he was assaulted and locked in the kitchen.

Armagh I has established a justgiving page for the elderly gentleman and has so far raised over £500 – well in excess of the £200 target.

It shows the depth of community spirit and the determination to stand together against those responsible for such despicable crimes.

And that is what local Sinn Fein Councillor Roisin Mulgrew is sure people will do after another such outrage in their midst.

On this occasion, burglars singled out a house in the Quarter Road area of Camlough.

They smashed their way in through patio doors and then ransacked the property, before leaving with jewellery and a safe, leaving another family to count the cost.

Councillor Mulgrew described confirmation of another such incident in the area as “deeply disturbing”.

She said: “This is deeply disturbing news, another family plunged into fear and anger as they discover their home has been robbed and ransacked.

“The fact that it is only five days before Christmas has compounded this dastardly act even further.”

Councillor Mulgrew visited the family after the robbery to offer which practical support she could.

And she encouraged vigilance, adding: “What this has shown is that we as a community need to be ever alert.

“Those engaged in these criminal activities care nothing about anything but themselves.

“We must stand together and ensure that these heartless thieves are apprehended and face the full rigours of the law.”
