Christmas warning after drink driver receives 12 month ban

A man has received a prison term at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court when he got back into his car after being disqualified.

On Monday, 8 December, 2014, 24 year old Egidijus Malinauskas appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court, charged with driving with excess alcohol. He was disqualified from driving for one year.

Constable Aaron McKenna explained: “Following his conviction we observed Malinauskas getting into a car and driving off.

We stopped this car on Mandeville Road and arrested Malinauskas for driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance. He was interviewed, charged and returned to court on the same day, before the same Magistrate.

“Malinauskas pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three months imprisonment and disqualified from driving for two years.”

Con Gary McGeown, Brownlow NPT, said: “This man will now spend Christmas behind bars because he took a chance with driving! Please, please do not take any chances this winter on our roads. If you get behind that wheel and you are not insured, disqualified or unfit to drive you are not only risking your life but the life of every person on the road. It is really not worth it!

“As well as the risk to human life you also face losing your licence and your vehicle which will have repercussions on your work and home life.

“Please be safe this Christmas – wear your seatbelt, reduce your speed and never, ever drink and drive!”
