Due to the decidedly dicey December temperatures recently, the cold weather payment has come into play.
What is a Cold Weather Payment? You’ll receive a Cold Weather Payment automatically if you get a qualifying benefit and live in a postcode area where the temperature is, or forecast to be, zero degrees or below for seven consecutive days.
The Met Office notifies the Department for Communities when the trigger for Cold Weather Payments has been reached.
You’ll get £25 for each seven day period of cold weather, which is verified at your nearest weather station.
If you live within an eligible area, you will receive your payment automatically into your bank account within 14 days if you are in receipt of any of the following benefits:
– Pension Credit
– Income Support
– Jobseeker’s Allowance (income-based)
– Employment and Support Allowance (income-related)
– Universal Credit
– Support for Mortgage Interest
