Charges linked to discovery of viable explosive device

A man is due to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning (Friday) facing two terrorism related charges.

Detective Inspector Mark Hosking, from PSNI Serious Crime Branch, confirmed that the 44-year-old had been charged with possession of articles likely to be of use to terrorists and engaging in preparatory acts of terrorism.

The charges are understood to relate to a security alert and the discovery of a viable explosive device at Sloan Street in Lurgan in October 2013.

As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A 25-year-old man who was also arrested earlier today (Thursday) has been released unconditionally.
