Burglars ransack house and steal cash and personal items

The latest in a series of raids across south Armagh this week has seen burglars smash their way through a patio door and ransack a family’s home.

Cash and personal items were stolen in this week’s burglary, and the intruders also damaged interior doors and “left the property in a mess”.

Local Councillor Mickey Larkin slammed those behind the latest in a string of such incidents in recent weeks around the Dromintee and Meigh areas.

And the Sinn Fein councillor has called on communities to stand together in the face of ongoing burglaries in their midst.

“I would ask residents to increase security around their homes and be aware of any suspicious activity or vehicles,” he said.

“In another incident a homeowner arrived to find a silver transit van sitting on his drive. When he confronted the driver another male appeared from the field beside the house. They got into the van and drove off.

“The resident’s diligence may have saved the day on this occasion.”

Sinn Fein MLA Megan Fearon also condemned these latest incidents.

“There have been a number of burglaries in the Meigh and Dromintee areas over the last month,” she said.

“These are traumatic for householders who work hard to provide for their families. The invasion and desecration of your home is something that many people take time to recover from.

“Anyone involved in these robberies are parasites feeding off the communities they target. They must be stopped.”
