Young boy dies after being struck by vehicle in Co Armagh

Incident happened earlier this morning

A young boy has died after being struck by a vehicle in county Armagh this morning (Friday).

The boy was rushed to hospital following the incident in Dobsons Way in Bessbrook.

However, he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Inspector Denise Graham said: “Police can confirm that a young boy has died after being struck by a vehicle in Dobsons Way in Bessbrook this morning, Friday 11 August.

“The young boy was taken to hospital for treatment but unfortunately died from his injuries.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact officers in Newry by calling 101 quoting reference number 399 of 11/08/17.”

Bessbrook councillor Roisin Mulgrew offered up her condolences to the grieving family this evening.

“This tragic incident has sent shockwaves throughout the community, and the loss will be felt in every home in the area, but not least with the grieving family.

“My thoughts are with his family and friends over the coming weeks and months as they come to terms with this tragedy, as will those of every citizen in the area.”

MLA for the area Justin McNulty added: “This is a complete tragedy, one that will be felt by the entire community.

“Our thoughts, prayers and sincere condolences are with the deceased, his family and community at this very difficult time.”
