Work begins on development of £90,000 children’s play park in Bessbrook

Work has commenced on a new £90,000 children’s play park in Bessbrook.

The development of the play park in the Pondfield area of the village has come about thanks to £70,000 funding from DEARA, with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council footing the remainder.

Sinn Féin councillor Declan Murphy says he is “delighted” to see work begin on the project.

“Bessbrook has a growing population and this amenity is a welcomed development,” he commented.

“I hope to see this work completed before the end of February and look forward to working with the local community to make Bessbrook a more attractive place to live in.

“I am in no doubt this new play park will be well utilised and valued by all of the parents and children of all ability in the Bessbrook community.”

The Project was supported by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) and the European Union, with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council contributing £20,000 towards the upgrade of the play park.
