Windows smashed on church day after vandals set nearby play park equipment on fire

Residents and volunteers in Bessbrook are once again counting the cost of an attack by mindless vandals in the area.

Just a day after freshly-delivered timber – as part of planned community play park – was set on fire a nearby church has had its windows smashed.

Police have this afternoon (Saturday) issued an appeal for information following the report of criminal damage at a church on the Derrymore Road in Bessbrook.

It was reported that three windows were broken at the church sometime between 8pm on Friday evening and 10am on Saturday morning.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact officers in Newtownhamilton on 101 quoting reference number 445 17/10/20. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The incident comes on the back of an attack just yards away in Derrymore Wood whereby vandals set fire to and destroyed building materials for a brand new play park in just hours after they were delivered on site. Read more on that here.
