Three attacked during aggravated burglary at south Armagh village

Two men armed with a hammer and chain have attacked three people during an aggravated burglary at a house in Bessbrook.

Three males were injured – sustaining cuts and bruises – during the incident at Wakefield Terrace.

Police received a report that between 1.30am and 1.45am today (Saturday).

The culprits, masked and armed with hammer and chain, forced their way into the house and assaulted the three occupants before making off.

Police have issued descriptions of those involved.

The first was around 5’6” tall, wore grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark coloured hooded top, with a scarf covering his face.

The second was around 5’10” tall and wore dark coloured bottoms, a black hooded top and also had a scarf covering his face.

Detective Sergeant Niall Bell has appealed to anyone who noticed anyone matching these descriptions in the area, or who has any information which could assist police with their enquiries, to contact detectives at Ardmore on 101 quoting reference number 164 28/04/18.

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
