Police and fire crews remain at the scene of a house fire in Bessbrook this evening (Sunday, January 18).
The incident occurred in the Thomas Street area, where emergency services were alerted earlier today. Firefighters from Newry, Banbridge, and Warrenpoint attended the scene to deal with the blaze and to ensure the property was made safe.
It is understood the property was being used as a suspected cannabis grow house.
Inspector Porter confirmed that no one was seriously injured during the incident.
“Thankfully, no-one sustained serious injury during the fire,” he said. “I want to reassure the community that, while there is no ongoing risk to the public, our officers will be remaining in the area to carry out enquiries while our partners make the property safe.”
Police have maintained a presence in the area as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
