Work is due to begin on Monday on a major resurfacing scheme along the Millvale Road in Bessbrook.

The £270,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme covers a stretch of some 800 metres from the junction with the Camlough Road to a point 50 metres northwest of Archdale Estate.

The scheme – which is not expected to be completed until October 16 – also involves upgrading of road drainage.

A Department for Infrastructure spokesperson said: “To help ensure the safety of those using the road, it will be necessary to have in place temporary traffic management arrangements which will include the use of traffic signals.

“The road will be fully open to traffic in the evenings during the week and all day Saturday and Sunday.

“Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times during the works.

“The Department has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journey.

“Completion of the work by Friday, October 16, is dependent on favourable weather conditions.

“The Department will keep the public informed of any change. All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.”
