Bessbrook is set to undergo a facelift with the commencement of environmental improvement works in the coming weeks.
The key aim of the scheme is to enhance the aesthetic appearance and key infrastructure within the model village, including; an enhanced public realm, better footpaths, street furniture and lighting.
A public consultation was held back in 2022 which helped form part of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s proposals which were granted last October.
Now, those plans are finally coming to fruition.
Sinn Féin councillor Declan Murphy described it as a “great boost” for the community.
“I worked closely with the community to lobby for Bessbrook to be selected for this investment,” he said.
“These works will include new bins, upgrades to footpaths and flowerbeds as well as an upgrade of the street lighting.
“The fountain area in particular will see a considerable overhaul of its appearance.
“This will be a great boost for the local community, following on from the investment of a new playground at the pond.
“Sinn Féin will continue working to secure investment to improve local communities across Newry and Armagh.”
